Piano Shawl - Hand Embroidered - Black Silk - Italian - circa 1920
Approximate size is 53x55 (without fringe) and the additional macramé fringe is an additional 21"
Item is nearly rectangular, nearly square, with slightly rounded corners.
Silk is not thin, or overly shiny on the top side like the newer versions of these old pieces of embroidery art. It is actually old.
Bought many, many, many years ago at an antique store in Hollywood & has been well loved ever since. The owner that I am listing this for purchased it as her first "adult" item as she moved out her parents home and into her own place in Hollywood. She is the sister of a child actor who had recurring roles on The Rifleman and My three Sons, but she herself was too shy for acting and pursued a career as a classically trained singer, and is still singing well into her retirement.
Being nearly 100 years old - it is in amazing condition for the age! There are some loose thread ends and small snags, as one would expect in a hand sewn piece this old, but there are no large rips, tears, moth holes, etc. I believe that it could be easily restored, or left as is to reflect it's age and history. Really quite stunning in person, but please refer to photo's showing the areas of a small hole at the edge of a flower, some of the loose threads (there are quite a few showing on either side, but I have not counted them) also, some areas of lighter spots, that might possibly be cleaned - but I have not laundered it here.
I do not typically list items for other people, but this little lady asked me to help her find her shawl a new home with someone that will love it too - is that you?
